Your Orphan Sunday Invitation | Mission Moments

THE BEGINNING OF ORPHAN SUNDAY While attending a church service in Zambia, an American visitor was struck by the pastor’s passionate plea to care for orphans in the local community, ravaged by AIDS and poverty. The members of the congregation faced deep need themselves, but as the service ended, the visitor–Gary Schneider–watched as one person after another stepped forward with money, food, and other goods–some even taking off their shoes and placing them in the collection for the orphans. Gary was so impacted by this demonstration that he began coordinating Orphan Sunday events with leaders across Zambia. These efforts spread to the U.S. in 2003, where we now joyfully follow the example of our faithful Zambian brothers and sisters to reflect God’s heart for the fatherless. is an initiative from the members of the Christian Alliance for Orphans. Orphan Sunday: 5 Ways You Can Make a Difference

November 13, 2016. Christians around the world will observe Orphan Sunday and will stand in solidarity for the vulnerable. Many churches will highlight James 1:27 and renew their commitment to visit orphans in their affliction. Whether you are a church member or a member of church staff, you have an opportunity to join believers in standing for the orphan on this important day. Here are 5 ways you can get involved: 1. PRAY. Ask God to direct your church leadership as they decide how to care for vulnerable children and families.
